Hannah Pingree is a lifelong Mainer, former Speaker of the Maine House, small business owner, and experienced state leader who has spent her career bringing people together to solve problems for Maine families.
Raised on the island of North Haven, Hannah understands both the opportunities and challenges of living in Maine’s small and rural communities. Her experience spans nearly every level of public and community service—from running a small business and chairing her local school board to serving in the Maine Legislature and leading statewide policy initiatives.
Hannah served four terms in the Maine House of Representatives, becoming Speaker of the House. During her legislative career, she worked to expand healthcare access, protect Maine children from toxic chemicals, support affordable housing, strengthen working waterfronts, and expand broadband access.
She later returned to public service to lead Maine’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future, where she helped coordinate statewide work on housing, workforce development, economic opportunity, climate resilience, support for children and older Mainers, and Maine’s response to the opioid crisis.
Now Hannah is running for governor with a central goal: making Maine a place where people can afford to build a life.
Her agenda focuses on lowering housing, healthcare, energy, childcare, and food costs; delivering property-tax relief; expanding Maine’s housing supply; strengthening public education; creating economic opportunities that allow young people to stay in Maine; and ensuring rural communities have access to the healthcare and services they need.
Hannah has spent her career turning ideas into action for Maine communities. She’s running for governor to bring that experience to the Blaine House and build a Maine where families can afford to stay, businesses can grow, and the next generation can build its future.
Pingree’s campaign identifies affordability, education, economic opportunity, healthcare, housing, and climate and energy as major issue areas. Her healthcare plan includes a state-backed public insurance option and measures aimed at rural provider shortages, while her broader affordability agenda addresses housing, property taxes, energy, childcare, healthcare, and food.
Now the real work begins. This campaign is about housing that allows young people to stay in Maine, quality health care we can afford, no matter where you live. It is about Maine's potential– ensuring a bright future for our kids, and for those struggling to get by. And this campaign is about standing up against Donald Trump’s reckless attacks, his wars and economic choices that are making life harder for Mainers. Heading into November, I need all of you—whether I was your first choice or your fifth or you didn’t participate in the primary at all—because beating Bobby Charles and Rick Bennett requires a diverse coalition of Mainers in this state pulling together.
